Grad Students at UNM push for Employee Status Legislation

I'm on TV, mom! See here.

This is a local news video shot about the above proposed legislation that I was interviewed for. Of course the part I'm quoted for was misused and doesn't really fit into the conversation. I was actually referring to last semester when I was a part TA/part RA and I was talking about performing critical research. I explicity told the interviewer (seen in the beginning of the video as Christie) that my PI is nothing like the horror stories that I've heard and actually treats me with respect and dignity (so much so as to allow this interview to take place which is a funny story). They even asked me during the interview how the bill would affect me and I said not at all really. I guess they chose to ignore that statement.

With that said, the experience was pleasant and I knew this was going to be portrayed the way it was so I tried to state my answers cleanly and it worked out the best possible way it could I suppose. My only regret is that the camera man zoomed in on my nail-bitten fingers while I was typing in my password to the lab computer (luckily I don't use that password for anything other than in lab so it's all good). Also, I have a serious overbite. Sigh...

So what did we learn? Schedule interviews in advance (I was notified of this interview twenty minutes before), don't bite your nails, the whole truth is irrelevent, and follow your orthodontist's advice otherwise your overbite will come back in a couple years. At least my earrings are ballin'!

You can read more on the issues at hand here and here.

Too many have their minds made up before looking at the facts, so what they really want is information that supports their position not the truth. Just observe the majority of news media with an open mind and amazing what the light will reveal.
