Favorite Art of the Week

I'm going to start this weekly series with some art from my Aunt Elaine who frequently comments here in the blog. She sent me a handmade Christmas card and it came out spectacularly.
Joy is right!
This is one of the most creative things I've seen in some time. Amazingly this piece symbolizes everything you possibly can show about Christmas. The X-mas colors of red and green are in full effect and are tastefully done. I generally do not like the clash of the red and green but it really works here. I think it is because the green is duller than typical allowing the red to punch more.

The white scratches on the green backdrop provide the illusion of a snowy, cold, winter night. The deer of course represents Santa and the music that is patterned on the deer reminds me of all the Christmas songs that play from Halloween until New Year's Eve, hahaha. And finally, the JOY reminds you what Christmas is really supposed to be about (Jesus).

The card itself is on a brown card stock paper and really gives a nice texture to the card. I love the textures of the deer and the green background as well. Simple effects like that (which are easy when you have actual paper in front of you) are things that I'm learning how to effectively incorporate into my designs. When doing a logo or a business card, I can't really do that, but if someone commissioned me to make a piece I would definitely look at this card for inspiration.

So in summation, kick ass!

Hi Ant -

Thank you for the great comments and critique. I was very surprised to see my card on your blog. Really sweet (I know mushy) of you to post it.

Love you honey,
Titi E

Well I was so blown away by the creativity that I had to post it. You really left me no choice, lol.

By the way, if you want to do that for money, you know where to get your business cards...
