Trip to Vegas Summary

Stef and I made a last minute decision to visit her cousin in Las Vegas. The trip was based completely on cost and timing. With most of the members of my project out of town during this week I decided to take a much needed vacation as well. Here is a summary of what went on, because I didn't really want to blog it all. I did tweet some stuff though. Anyways, summary following the link...

Day 1 was the 1.5 hour trip to Vegas at 7am. We landed at 730 Vegas time and headed to an IheartAnthony favorite establishment Hash House a Go-Go (see the pictures where we chowed on our first ever taste of chicken and waffles! We then settled in to our stay and just chilled out for the rest of the day. We watched Shutter Island at some point, which I thought was a great movie. We finished the day with a family barbeque.

The next day we did some minor shopping and ventured toward the strip. We checked out the newest strip addition, the CityCenter, which was sort of a let down. We did hit up the Mandarin Oriental (part of CityCenter) for tea time, where we enjoyed a spot of tea on the 33rd floor overlooking the entire city. Something about city overlooks really gets me, and this one reminded me a lot of overlooking Paris from the Eiffel Tower (being that the city's are so flat and buildings are so small compared to a few massive landmarks). We met up with more family for dinner that night and then checked into the Aliante Station for a nice overnight.

Day 3 was filled with poolside relaxing, something I haven't done in years! I recalled and told stories of days at the beach in NY, local pools from my childhood, tales from Puerto Rico, and many other memories from my youth. The pool was cold for me (relative to the air) but couldn't have been any colder than 80F. I specifically remember being in pools in NY that were at 65-75F and having the days of my life and never being cold. My how things have changed.

The next day was for Stef as I was dragged from store to store hoping for that awesome bargain that is just too good to pass up. We came across a couple, but nothing that piqued my interest. It was still fun nonetheless since it was refreshing to go to stores that don't exist in every single mall in the country, and see tons of shops and eateries that are Vegas only (or at least don't exist in ABQ).

Today I got up at 445 to catch a plane at 7am. It was definitely a much needed vacation that was filled with almost nothing. The perfect remedy from grad school overworking. Here's a quick summary of places visited for your benefit.
