Julie and Julia

This is my second try at this post. The first try was going to be me ranting about how Hollywood overglorified and oversimplified blogging (not really!) and how I liked the movie mentioned above, but hated how they portrayed the process. Something told me to actually do some research (which is my field of career) and I found out... they didn't!

If you haven't seen the movie it is about a parallel tale of Julia Childs pioneering cooking into what it is today and Julie Something making every recipe in the former's famous book Mastering the Art of French Cooking in the span on a year and blogging it. It is really quite a good movie and I enjoyed it but I thought the blogging aspects were dramatized for the movie.

Turns out I was wrong. The blog was (because she no longer writes on it) quite popular and continued to be popular after her venture was over. I suppose my rant stemmed from my own jealousy because I made a blog about my life (which is pretty boring I suppose) and I don't have the eloquencey of an actual writer (but I feel like I'm getting better). I also don't have people mailing me supplies (I could really use a good PCR machine btw) or money (I documented that on my research only blog). I also don't have as many followers.

I realize now that if I had done a blog that focused on one thing, I probably would have a ton of followers. Whenever I blog about health, weight loss, food, etc I notice my readership increases. When I blog about research I reach a whole other audience. When I blog about random stuff, nothing really happens. Well this is what I do, who I am, and the path I chose and I don't regret a single instance.

I would like to thank all my readers which compose of family, friends, colleagues, acquaintances, and youtube "I'm Fat!" followers. You guys have made it a joy to blog for. I love doing this and I like that I make no money from this. I also love whenever I discover a new reader, and I like even more when I get to meet people who are reading whether it is by comments, emails, facebooking, friend feed, voice mail, or some other medium that I have made myself available on.

Now that this post went from a rant, to praise, to self-loathing, and finally to recognition and thanks (did I just go through the AA 5 step program?) I find it appropriate to end here as I continue my venture to produce kick-ass science, lose weight, gain years of my life, make recipes, demonstrate my illustration skills, make movies, and anything else I may dabble in. Stay classy Lifers...

LOL I love when you rant and I love reading your blog. It's nice to know that hollywood didn't mess up this time as I to loved this movie and wish I thought of it first instead of Julie:)
