Trials and Tribulations

As some of us may know the season of Lent is upon us. I barely practice any Catholic thing, but yearly I enjoy going through the suffering of giving something up for Lent. Each year I find something that was harder to give up than the previous year. Eventually it will culminate into me giving up oxygen or something ridiculous like that. Last year I gave up fast food and chocolate, which was next to impossiible. This year I've one-upped myself.

For those not in the know, Lent is the period of time that represents the time Jesus spent in the desert being tempted by the devil. He smacked that fool with his pimp hand up and down the dunes of the Middle East and sent that jabroni packing. He then returned and got crucified. So in honor of J-Smooth, Christians are supposed to fast or abstain from something for the 40 days. It ends on Easter Sunday. On top of that we are supposed to refrain from meat (except fish for some reason) on Fridays, but I take it a step further and not eat altogether.

So on top of the no eating every Friday, I've decided to give up all meat (fish included) for the entire 40 days. Finding things to eat is going to be tough, but with the help of friends I think I can pull it off. I can't even really remember a day when I haven't eaten meat, I don't know how I'm going to do 40.

My friend Leigh is utterly thrilled. She is a vegetarian that we constantly tease for her non-human tendencies. When I told her Lent was upon us, she was like "you stopped eating meat?!" To which I replied "yes."

I think whenever times get tough I need to look up to the heavenly man, Eli Manning. "How did you do it?" I will ask. And Big E-sy will reply, "It is the way of the Man-ning. Take some Giant steps and look into your soul. You will find the path." Then I will say, "Thanks Eli. You sure are swell." Then he will throw me his towel. And it will hit me in the face and I will clumsily bobble then drop it cause I am in awe. And I will never wash my face again.
